Allaahu laa ‘ilaaha ‘illaa Huwal-Hayyul-Qayyoom, laa ta’khuthuhu sinatun wa laa nawm, lahu maa fis-samaawaati wa maafil-‘ardh, man thal-lathee yashfa’u ‘indahu ‘illaa bi’ithnih, ya’lamu maa bayna ‘aydeehim wa maa khalfahum, wa laa yuheetoona bishay’im-min ‘ilmihi ‘illaa bimaa shaa’a, wasi’a kursiyyuhus-samaawaati wal’ardh, wa laa ya’ooduhu hifdhuhumaa, wa Huwal-‘Aliyyul- ‘Adheem

Allah! There is none worthy of worship but He, the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists. Neither slumber nor sleep overtakes Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is he that can intercede with Him except with His Permission? He knows what happens to them in this world, and what will happen to them in the Hereafter. And they will never compass anything of His Knowledge except that which He wills. His Throne extends over the heavens and the earth, and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.

Surah Al-Baqarah – 2:255

Before sleeping – 7

Allahumma aslamtu nafsee ilayk, wafawwadtu amree ilayk, wawajjahtu wajhee ilayk, wa-alja/tu thahree ilayk, raghbatan warahbatan ilayk, la maljaa wala manja minka illa ilayk, amantu bikitabikal-lathee anzalt, wabinabiyyikal-lathee arsalt.

O Allah, I submit my soul unto You, and I entrust my affair unto You, and I turn my face towards You, and I totally rely on You, in hope and fear of You. Verily there is no refuge nor safe haven from You except with You. I believe in Your Book which You have revealed and in Your Prophet whom You have sent.

Al-Bukhari 11:113, Muslim 4:2081

O Allah, Knower of the seen and the unseen, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Lord and Sovereign of all things I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped except You. I take refuge in You from the evil of my soul and from the evil and shirk of the devil, and from committing wrong against my soul or bringing such upon another Muslim.’ shirk: to associate others with Allah in those things which are specific to Him. This can occur in (1) belief, e.g. to believe that other than Allah has the power to benefit or harm, (2) speech, e.g. to swear by other than Allah and (3) action, e.g. to bow or prostrate to other than Allah.

Abu Dawud 4:317

Alhamdu lillahil-lathee atAAamana wasaqana, wakafana, wa-awana, fakam mimman la kafiya lahu wala mu/wee.

All praise is for Allah, Who fed us and gave us drink, and Who is sufficient for us and has sheltered us, for how many have none to suffice them or shelter them.

Before sleeping – 1

Al-Bukari 11:126

Solutions to problem

“And when they hear what has been revealed to the Messenger, you see their eyes overflowing with tears because of what they have recognized of the truth. They say, “Our Lord, we have believed, so register us among the witnesses.” (Qur’aan: Surah Al-Maidah:83)

Dua to Allah repentance

They said, “Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers.” (Qur’aan: Surah Al-Aaraf:23)

Dua to Allah protection

And when their eyes are turned toward the companions of the Fire, they say, “Our Lord, do not place us with the wrongdoing people.” (Qur’aan: Surah Al-Aaraf:47)

Dua to Allah patience

And you do not resent us except because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims [in submission to You].” (Qur’aan: Surah Al-Aaraf:126)

When in any difficult

“O Allah, I hope for Your mercy, do not leave me for even the duration of an eye blink (duration) and correct my total condition. Besides You there is none worthy of worship”.

(Hisnul Hasin from Abu Dawood)

(Mustadrak Hakim)

“O Allah, there is none worthy of worship besides You. You are Pure, definitely I have oppressed my soul by sinning”.
The Qur’an states that these words were recited when Yunus (A.S.) called upon Allah from the belly of the fish. Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W.) stated in a hadith that when any Muslim makes this dua via these words to Allah, then Allah surely accepts his duas.

(Tirmidhi etc)

Dua for parents

“O our Lord! Forgive me and my parents, and (all) Believers, on the Day that the Reckoning will be established!” (Qur’aan: 14:41)

This is a dua made by Prophet Ibrahim (pbuh). He had offered this dua for protection from Hell- fire. This is an extraordinary dua where Ibrahim (pbuh) is not only asking for him and his parents, but for all the believers. This should be an example for us to include other believers in our duas so that Allah (SWT) grants His mercy to all Muslims.

And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy and say, “My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small. (Qur’aan: 17:24)

For righteous offspring

My Lord, grant me [a child] from among the righteous. (Qur’aan: 37:100)

Our Lord, and make us Muslims [in submission] to You and from our descendants a Muslim nation [in submission] to You. And show us our rites and accept our repentance. Indeed, You are the Accepting of repentance, the Merciful. (Qur’aan: 2:128)

And [mention] Zechariah, when he called to his Lord, “My Lord, do not leave me alone [with no heir], while you are the best of inheritors.” (Qur’aan: 21:89)

At beginning of sexual intercourse

Narrated Ibn ‘Abbas:
The Prophet said, “If anyone of you, when intending to have a sexual intercourse with his wife, says: ‘Bismillah, Allahumma jannibna-sh-shaitan, wa jannibi-sh-shaitan ma razaqtana,’ and if the couple are destined to have a child (out of that very sexual relation), then Satan will never be able to harm that child.”

Dua for Speech

“Oh My Lord! Open for me my chest (grant me self-confidence, contentment, and boldness). And ease my task for me; And loose the knot (the defect) from my tongue, That they may understand my speech” (Qur’aan: 20:26)

Prophet Musa (pbuh) made this dua while proceeding to the court of Firawn for the arguments. In this dua, there is a request to increase one’s knowledge base – an important requirement for arguments. The second request is to remove physical limitations or limitation of resources. The third request is to allow him make lucid, easy to understand arguments. As we know, Musa (pbuh) was successful in the Firawn’s court and the wise men in the court had accepted the truth.

When Wearing a Garment

“Oh Allah, all praise and thanks to You for clothing me with this (garment). I ask You for the good of it and the good of what it was made for, and I ask Your protection from the evil of it and the evil of what it was made for.” (Abu Dawud Book 32, Number 4009: Tirmidhi (59) Hadith Number 7)

When entering the Masjid

“O Lord, forgive my sins and open the doors of mercy for me”. (Mishkat)

Alternatively recite

“O Allah, open the doors of mercy”. (Mishkat)

While Entering the Graveyard

Imam Husain (a.s.) says whoever enter a graveyard says as follows, Allah will write in his record ‘goodness’ equivalent to the number of creation from the period of Hazrat Adam (a.s.) to the occurrence of Resurrection.

Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem. Allaahumma rabba haazehil arwaahil faaneyate wal-ajsaadil baaleyate wal-e’zaamin nakheratil latee kharajat menad dunyaa wa heya beka moamenatun adkhil a’layhim rawhan minka wa salaaman minnee.

In the name of Allah the Beneficent the Merciful. O Allah the Lord of these souls that have left (this world) and these stale bodies and these rotten bones that have made and exit from this world in the state of having faith in thee, Grant them ease from Thyself and greeting from me.

When visiting the sick

“There is no problem, If Allah wills, He will purge your sins by this illness.” (Bukhari)

And recite this dua seven times for his good health

“I ask Allah who is the Lofty and the Lord of the Mighty Throne that He cures you”

Prophet Mohammad (SAW.) said that by reciting this dua seven times, the ill person will regain his health and if death occurs then that (death) is a different issue (i.e. death is written it cannot be prevented). (Mishkat)

Upon Sneezing

Alhamdu lillaahi

All praise is for Allah.
